Access to Respite
FASN offers annual respite weekends, giving family members a chance to rest, connect with others, and gain support and insight in a welcoming environment.
Taking time to care for yourself is not a luxury — it’s a necessity.
At FASN, we understand how emotionally and physically draining it can be to support a loved one struggling with addiction. That’s why we offer annual respite weekends designed especially for family members like you — a chance to step away, recharge, and connect with others who truly understand what you’re going through.
Why Respite Matters
Our respite weekends offer more than just a break — they provide a healing space where you can:
- Connect with others who share similar lived experiences, reducing feelings of isolation
- Experience meaningful self-care in a supportive and non-judgemental environment
- Learn new tools and strategies to support your own wellbeing and strengthen your coping skills
- Take time away from the pressures of daily life and constant worry, without guilt
Each respite weekend includes a balance of relaxation, reflection, and learning, with gentle workshops, group support, and moments for quiet rest or fun social time. Participants often come away feeling revitalised and refreshed, with a deeper sense of strength and clarity.
What Family Members Say
“I didn’t know how much I needed this until I arrived. I felt seen, supported, and surrounded by people who truly understood. I came home lighter, calmer, and ready to keep going.”
— Anne, Monaghan
“It was the first time in years I laughed without feeling guilty. I met people who ‘got it’ straight away, and I learned so much about how to care for myself, not just my loved one.”
— David, Dundalk
“The weekend gave me a new sense of hope. I arrived exhausted, and I left feeling like I had a team around me, even though I didn’t know a soul before going.”
— Mary, Cavan
Who Can Attend?
Respite weekends are open to family members aged 18 and over who are impacted by a loved one’s drug or alcohol use. Whether you are a parent, partner, sibling, or close friend, you are welcome to join us.
We welcome both newcomers and those already engaged with FASN services. Spaces are limited, so early registration is encouraged.
