We’re so proud to share that Karen Coyle, a kind-hearted and determined woman from County Cavan, has completed an incredible personal and fundraising journey — walking a section of the famous Camino de Santiago to support families affected by addiction across Cavan and Monaghan.
Karen undertook this challenge in aid of FASN – The Family Addiction Support Network, which provides practical, emotional, and free support to families navigating the difficult realities of a loved one’s substance use.

Karen began her walk in Tui, on the Portuguese-Spanish border, and completed one of the most physically and emotionally demanding sections of the Camino. Her steps, both literal and symbolic, reflect her deep commitment to helping families find strength, support, and healing.
Karen shared:
“Walking the Camino was a wonderful and unforgettable experience. It was physically challenging but so meaningful. I’m deeply grateful to everyone who supported me along the way. I want to sincerely thank my family, friends, neighbours, the generous local Cavan businesses whose sponsorship made this possible, and my fellow Camino walkers who also sponsored me. Your kindness will go a long way in helping those who need it most.”
What Karen’s Walk Will Support
Thanks to Karen’s generosity — and your support — the funds raised will directly benefit families in Cavan and Monaghan by helping FASN provide:
-
One-to-one support for family members living with addiction in the home
-
Access to professional counselling
-
Educational workshops and support groups to build resilience and recovery
We at FASN are deeply grateful for Karen’s compassion and strength.
“Karen’s walk is a testament to the power of community and the courage of those who understand the ripple effect of addiction,” a FASN spokesperson said. “Her journey not only raised vital funds, but helped give a voice to families who are often suffering in silence.”
The Hidden Victims of Addiction
Addiction doesn’t just affect one person — it affects whole families. Parents, siblings, children and partners often carry the weight of:
-
Fear, guilt, and exhaustion
-
Emotional and financial stress
-
Drug debt intimidation and instability in the home
That’s why FASN exists — to offer hope and support to the often-overlooked family members affected by a loved one’s substance use. Our trained team runs weekly support groups in both Cavan and Monaghan and provides access to a dedicated keyworker who helps guide families through their journey to recovery.
“No one should have to suffer in silence,” the spokesperson added. “Family members deserve care and support too — and Karen’s amazing efforts will help make that possible for more people in our communities.”
