The Family Addiction Network, in collaboration with the National Family Support Steering Group, will host a national conference, ‘Trauma in the Community,’ on Thursday and Friday, 19th and 20th September 2024, at the Carrickdale Hotel, Dundalk, Co. Louth.
Substance misuse and drug-related intimidation are devastating families and communities across Ireland. This conference will spotlight these issues, giving a platform to those affected and working towards actionable solutions. Families, support services, and experts will unite to foster dialogue on trauma-informed care and whole-family recovery.

Siobhan Maher, Coordinator, Drug Related Intimidation & Violence Engagement Project

Their insights, along with powerful personal stories, will set the stage for transformative discussions on trauma-informed care and community recovery.
The conference will be opened by James Leonard from the Two Norries Podcast and chaired by former Chief Supt. Christy Mangan. Interactive round table discussions will allow attendees to share experiences and propose strategies for tackling trauma.
Pat Byrne, Dundalk FM will facilitate a “Community as a Tool of Change” panel discussion, including a Q&A session.
Workshops on self-care and holistic therapies will offer practical tools for personal and community healing.
The outcomes of this conference will help shape government policy, emphasising the need for a coordinated national strategy to support affected families and communities.
